Improving Your Worst Employee – The Results To Expect

Before investing in a system, an approach to improve worst employees, it is sensible to work out the results to expect.
You Only Need Reasonable Skills
I was early in my career (~27 years old), in my first proper management position at the time, when I was taught what to do. i.e. I wasn’t a very skilled manager at the time. I had reasonable people skills and was not afraid to have difficult conversations. I had some experience of managing groups, mainly from outside of work.
My best boss ever taught me how to approach improving my worst employee. I have taught this same approach to many individuals over the years and THEY GET SIMILAR RESULTS.
i.e. anyone with reasonable people skills, the right attitude and approach and the will to learn, improve and succeed will get good results from enhance’s worst team member strategy and approach.
The main drivers of getting results with this method are RECIPROCITY, SOCIAL, RELATIONSHIP AND GROUP RULES. i.e. you don’t need to have the authority of a position (though this helps too) or to be able to threaten an individual with losing their job or use other fear based tactics.
There is also no trickery, or underhand tactics involved. You can take your worst team member through exactly what you are offering, what you are going to do and what you are expecting from them, tell them about the upsides and the consequences i.e. be TOTALLY TRANSPARENT and you will get the same results as saying nothing at all.
Getting These Results
To get similar results showing below, you will need to put in work, to learn, to manage your reactions and mindset, to remain open minded and to want to help the other person. You will also need reasonable people skills and management skills. Remember, this approach worked brilliantly for me at 27 years old, in my FIRST proper management position. I was certainly NOT more than reasonable at the time.
I have used enhance’s approach with over 100 “worst team members” and the results gained are based on that experience.
As you can see, the vast majority – up to 85% – of individuals improve to meet or beat the expectations that you have set for the team as a whole (i.e. average reasonable expectations).
85%
That is significantly more than most managers achieve. Probably by 3 to 5 MULTIPLES better than most managers achieve based on my experience and observations (I have worked in many great companies with many talented individuals and managers).

Please note that your results will vary and will depend on many factors including but not limited to your background, experience, attitude, approach and work ethic. If you are not willing to learn, put in the effort and want your worst employee to improve, you won’t get nearly as good as the results showing above.
If you are willing to work and improve, there is no reason why you can’t and shouldn’t get similar results to the above when implementing everything I teach you in How to Manage Difficult Employees.
