Why A Managers Performance is their Teams Performance

Most managers instinctively know that their team’s performance matters to their own personal performance. I explain WHY what you have guessed suspect about your team’s performance really does matter to you personally.
Why A Manager’s Performance Is Their Team’s Performance
Your Team’s Performance Is Your Performance
Why Companies NEED Better Team Performance
Best Way For You To Add “Profit” To Company
What You Get In Return
Your team’s performance is your performance
The best way most managers can add EXTRA value or profit to their company is by increasing their team’s performance. This is because the work you personally do to increase team performance is leveraged work. i.e. the work of one person increases the output of many people.
This is why managers are judged on their team’s performance.
It almost doesn’t matter what your personal objectives or target say. Your performance will be judged on your team’s performance. I don’t know of any manager (in my 20+ years of leading teams in many different companies) that was paid a good bonus or promoted when they were leading a team with DROPPING performance. It just doesn’t happen.
Company leaders would be mad or suicidal to reward individuals that DESTROY profit.
To increase the chances of getting promoted as a manager, you need to increase team performance AND you need to communicate that performance increase to your bosses on a consistent basis.
Getting promoted means you will have more people to manage. This INCREASES your impact, your influence, your status, your personal power and your bank balance.
Why Companies NEED better team performance
Nearly every market in which companies operate in the western world is competitive. Very competitive. Every company is competing for customer attention and purchases, to attract the best staff to produce their products and services and for investor funding to help them grow.
It is tough to survive. It is even harder to grow and be consistently profitable.
Without great staff AND great managers to get the best from those staff, companies don’t succeed.
Companies need managers that can take average teams and turn them into better than average. It is one of the ways they can beat their competitors year after year. Everyone’s job depends on business success.

Best way for you to add “profit” to company
Profit is a universally accept measure of business success. The best way (in most cases) a manager can add significantly to business profit is by increasing the performance of their team. One person increases the productivity of many.
This is the leverage effect managers have and WHY managers are paid more than workers. Managers are able to create a lot more “profit” for the company than a worker can.
Managers are also in a position to destroy profit and value by managing a team with dropping team performance.
The impact a manager can have on business profit (increase or decrease) can easily be hundreds of £’000s even for small teams. For large teams, these figures can easily reach millions. For most companies, these numbers are meaningful to its success.
Typically, 20% of teams produce 80% of a company’s profits.
The value creation difference between a top 5% manager and an average manager is up to 8 times. That is 800%. This vast value or profit difference is due to the leverage effect managers have through their teams.
This is why the best way you can add a huge amount of ADDITIONAL value or profit to your business is by increasing your team’s performance.
Companies will pay a lot more to managers that can consistently increase the profit or value for those companies.

What you get in return
